Happy Sunday!! We are at the final countdown for Thanksgiving peeps!! Is everyone ready? Now I know this year is going to be different for most but let’s all just take a moment to think about what we are grateful for………I am most thankful for my family, friends and just the life that I live. I know I sometimes want more but I also know that their are people out there with much less!!
Now where did we leave off last week…..(think, think) haha winnie the pooh, get it……Anyone? No? Ooooook moving on ….. ah yes, I believe it’s time to put fish in the tank!! Can I just tell you #excited is not even enough of an expression of how I feel about this. The moment Kraig says “babe, lets go get some fish.” I mean overπ the π moon π!!! Haha can you picture that, me, jumping over the moon *hysterical laughter* !! Well picture it baby because it so happened!!
Anyway we are now on a mission for (dun, dun, dun) clown fishhhhhhh!! Sometimes I wish this was a podcast because some of these things seem so much better said not written lol. Like in my head it goes down so much funnier I’m sure!! Well anyway, so here we go, LFS or in this case Petco, to go get… you guessed it, Nemo!!! Oh, yes and of course Marlin π

Here they are my new babies! I apologize for the quality of the picture but I was new to taking pictures of moving creatures in the water π€·ββοΈit’s apparently not easy, who knew?!! The bigger clown is Marlin and the baby is Nemo. So here’s to the first nerve racking night of hoping we don’t wake up to dead fish! I seriously have never slept more terrible over something not human in my life! I honestly had the thought to get up and check on them every few hours.
Wow side note: when I look at this tank now I can’t even believe the rookie mistakes we made! I will touch upon that later in another post! It’s not really relevent here. At that moment the tank was beautiful and the fish were loving it!! Also alive, the fish were alive! First challenge crushed. I hope! *bites bottom lip*
Side note: The next morning our fish were still alive and they have been for 6 months now!

This is baby Nemo. Super cute right? I wish you could honeslty see how small he is.
Some fun facts about Clown fish
- There are 30 different types of them and you can not mix and match them like clothing lol (ours are Ocellaris or OCC)
- They can change their sex. Meaning they are hermaphrodites. They are born males and have the ability to change into females. When you have a pair usually the bigger of the two will switch to female. Once they change into a female they cannot change back to males. But if the female dies and you get another Clown the bigger of the two will change, so your old male could now be your new female..haha did you follow all that?ππ (You should see the crazy dance they do to establish whos who also)!
- In the wild they cannot survive without hosting an anemone. But let me tell you unless you have an agressive tank, scratch having an anemone, those stinkers are nothing but trouble!! Your clowns will be fine! Please trust me on this!!
Update: Nemo and Marlin are both doing amazing! We have not had any babies but we won’t because we keep our temperature to low for the clowns to mate. That’s merely for another reason though….flashback to an earlier post. Do you all remember that beautiful Mandarin Dragonette? Well she needs a certain temperature to live in. This temp is not hot enough for the clowns to mate. Ergo no clown babies!
Annnndddddd that’s the story of our first step into becoming saltwater fish parents! Stay tuned to hear all about the other crazies we put into the tank !!
